Inside our Schools: CV plans ‘Connections’
Central Valley School District will present three Community Connections events to highlight school programs and strategies. Teachers and students will participate in discussions with a focus on career and college readiness.
Each meeting will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
• McDonald Elementary School, 1512 S. McDonald Road, Tuesday, “Impact of Smaller First Grade Class Size and Full-Day Kindergarten on Student Learning,” plus, musical performances.
• Bowdish Middle School, 2109 S. Skipworth Road, Nov. 6, “Safety and School Culture;” common core state standards and sample lessons.
• Summit School, 612 S. McDonald Road, Nov. 8, “Expeditionary Learning”
Each event will include a short overview of the 2013 District Report Card.

Opportunity Elementary School, 1109 S. Wilbur Road, is in need of volunteers for Panda Pals.
The mentoring program aims to pair adults with students who could benefit from a positive and consistent adult interaction. Mentors will be asked to spend one hour a week with a student during recess and lunch.
All volunteers will be asked to complete the Central Valley School District volunteer application and a background check.

Veterans Day celebration
Valley Christian School will present two Veterans Day performances Nov. 8.
The 25th annual program will feature patriotic music performed by the elementary choir and the high school drama team.
The first performance will be at 10:30 a.m. at New Life Assembly of God Church, 10920 E. Sprague Ave. The second will be at 1 p.m. at Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Ave.
The public is invited to attend.
