Riverside secures second place in NEA

 Jacob Collins’ 1-yard touchdown plunge with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter helped Riverside secure second place in the Northeast A League with a 32-29 win over Lakeside on Friday night in Nine Mile Falls.

Collins finished with two touchdown runs and Rams quarterback Sam Zanoni threw for two scores.

Lakeside’s Coleton Collins hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Gay late in the fourth quarter to give the Eagles (5-3, 4-2) a 29-25 advantage, but the Rams (6-2, 4-1) drove down the field and took the lead.

The Eagles’ Coleton Collins also ran for two touchdowns.

Freeman 46, Kettle Falls 7: Preston Hoppman put the Scotties on top early with a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes to Kain Genteman and Jack Paukert, and Freeman (8-0, 5-0) went on to rout the host Bulldogs (1-7, 0-5). In the third quarter it was Freeman’s defense that shined as Genteman and Markus Goldbach both returned interceptions for scores. Freeman’s Max Laib carried the ball 15 times for 141 yards and a score, and Goldbach added two rushing touchdowns.

Newport 21, Chewelah 6: Tristen Cutshall ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to help the Grizzlies (4-4, 1-4) pull away from the host Cougars (1-7, 1-4). Carter Shultz propelled the Newport offense with 21 carries for 134 yards and three catches for 62 yards. Chewelah came to within one point in the third quarter on Mackinzie Miller’s 8-yard touchdown run, and the score remained that way until Cutshall plunged in from 3 yards out in the fourth quarter.

Inland Empire 5A

Post Falls 48, Lewiston 42 (2OT): Dalton Thompson’s 10-yard touchdown run in double overtime gave the Trojans (5-4, 1-1) a win over the host Bengals (4-4, 0-2). Post Falls fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter but outscored Lewiston 21-7 in the second half to force overtime.

Great Northern

Deer Park 24, Colville 20: Canyon Nielson scored from 2 yards out with just over a minute left to give the Stags (2-6, 1-3) a comeback-win over the visiting Indians (5-3, 2-2). Deer Park scored 22 fourth-quarter points. Theron Taylor rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries for the Stags. For the Indians, Colton Vining recorded a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

Northeast 2B

Reardan 14, Davenport 0: Clinton Jeney broke open a 6-0 game in the fourth quarter with a 43-yard touchdown run, and the Indians (5-2, 4-1) topped the host Gorillas (3-5, 2-3). Dan Peone scored the game’s other touchdown in the first quarter for Reardan.

Northwest Christian 39, Springdale 34: Jerry Sander hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass from David Olds with 57 seconds to play to give the Crusaders (1-5, 1-4) their first win in their first year of football, defeating the host Chargers (0-7, 0-6). Olds threw for 486 yards and five touchdowns and added a touchdown on the ground. Sander was a popular target, hauling in eight passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner.

• Colfax’s game at Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was postponed because officials failed to show up. A makeup date has yet to be scheduled.

Intermountain League

Timberlake 88, Priest River 33: Bryce Johnson threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns to guide the Tigers (5-3, 2-0) past the visiting Spartans (4-3, 1-2) at Spirit Lake.

Central Washington 2B

Liberty Bell 45, Lake Roosevelt 0: Chip Jones scored three touchdowns in the Mountain Lions’ win over the Raiders at Coulee Dam.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 55, Selkirk 16: Eli Peterson scored three touchdowns and Tyson Shanholtzer threw for three more as the Panthers (5-2, 4-1) dumped the visiting Rangers (5-3, 3-2). Peterson opened the scoring with a 55-yard first-quarter touchdown run, and after Selkirk came to within two points, he added another 55-yard score. Shanholtzer threw two touchdown passes to Chad Browneagle and another to Peterson.

Republic 80, Columbia-Inchelium 34: Aaron Fritts rushed for 109 yards and three TDs and threw for 113 yards and another score to guide the Tigers (6-2, 5-0) past the visiting Timberwolves (5-3, 3-2). Alex Rivera ran for 236 yards and four TDs for the Tigers, and twin brother Angelo added 121 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Thomas Cohen ran for two scores and passed for another for the Timberwolves.

Curlew 46, Northport 8: Gunner Brown opened the scoring with an 84-yard run and the Cougars (3-5, 3-4) didn’t turn back in a win over the host Mustangs (0-8, 0-6). Brown finished with two more touchdown runs, while Kolten Fanning added three of his own to round out the Curlew scoring. Ben Short finished with 15 carries for 138 yards and the lone Mustangs touchdown.

Northeast 1B South

Wilbur-Creston 42, Odessa-Harrington 0: Trystan Rosman rushed for a pair of touchdowns to guide the Widlcats (7-1, 6-0) past the host Titans (4-4, 4-1). Mason Copeland added another touchdown on the ground for Wilbur-Creston in the win.

Southeast 1B

St. John-Endicott 48, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 8: Wade West rushed for 256 yards and three touchdowns, including a 99-yard run for a score, and the Eagles (3-5, 1-4) routed the visiting Tigercats (0-7, 0-5). Wilson Lundberg added 102 yards and a score on eight carries, and Matt Gonzalez returned a first-quarter interception 80 yards for a touchdown.

Nonleague

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 72, Wellpinit 26: Dallas Isaak ran the Warriors’ option attack to perfection, rushing 37 times for 450 yards and nine touchdowns in Almira/Coulee-Hartline’s win over the host Redskins (1-7). After Wellpinit took a 14-8 first quarter lead, Isaak scored the next four touchdowns to help ACH (3-6) pull away. Jason Holt rushed for three scores for Wellpinit.
