In brief: Deputies seek armed robber

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an armed man who robbed a store north of Hayden.

Deputies responded to a robbery at the Alpine Country Store in the Garwood area at 5 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release. The clerk said a man brandishing a gun entered the store and stole cash from the register. The robber then fled the store on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-to-late 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches and 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dirty gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black and white tennis shoes. His face was hidden by a gray scarf.

Initiative filed to legalize pot

PORTLAND – A pro-marijuana group filed an initiative to legalize pot in Oregon.

New Approach Oregon will first push state lawmakers to refer the measure to the November 2014 ballot. If that fails, the group plans to collect signatures.
