Obituary: Allen, Robert Clinton, Sr.

ALLEN, Robert Clinton, Sr. (Age 87) A resident at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Spokane Valley, WA, passed away October 18, 2013, at age 87, due to complications of illnesses.

He was born June 24, 1926, in Montana.

He served in the Navy and after honorable discharge, worked as a surveyor.

Alongside his father, he helped build the Grand Coulee Dam.

His son, Monte, confirmed to his dad that the dam is very straight.

In 1952, he moved to Spokane, WA to start his 31-year profession with the Spokane City Fire Department.

He remarried in 1975, to Eleanor, and raised two step-daughters, Cherie (DeJoie) Steadman and Judy (DeJoie) Kidd.

Eleanor predeceased Bob in June 2011.

He loved being a firefighter.

When he retired in 1981, it was his distinct honor to spend the last fifteen years as Battalion Chief.

After retirement, Bob enjoyed golf, carpentry, and extensive traveling.

As with most firefighters, he could build and repair anything.

He was a long-time member of El Katif Shrine in Spokane.

He is survived by sons Robert C. Allen, Jr., Florida, Monte Quinn Allen, Spokane, Yvonne Allen (Zucker), and many grandchildren.

His son, Terry L. Allen, predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital or to the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held Friday Oct. 25, 2013 at 2:30 PM, at Good Samaritan Community Center, 17028 E. 8th Ave., Spokane Valley, WA.

A graveside service will be held Monday, October 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave.
