Obituary: Emery, Evelyn Mayme

Age 94

EMERY, Evelyn Mayme November 3, 1919 October 21, 2013 Evelyn Mayme Emery went to meet her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2013.

Born in Cornucopia, OR on November 3, 1919.

She worked her way through high school in Peck, ID by ironing.

She worked her way through the University of Idaho by serving in the college dining room.

She earned her bachelor’s degree and her letter from the University of Idaho where she met her husband and dancing partner of 71 years, Elmer H. Emery.

Following her graduation from U of I, she was hired by the YWCA in Spokane, WA to coordinate USO dances and teach badmitten.

She and Elmer were married in Lewiston, ID on August 8, 1942, but continued to reside in Spokane.

They had two sons, Melvin and Duane.

She was a wonderful homemaker, member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, the garden club, and CPA wives organization.

She shared her love and creativity with her family and many lifelong friends blessing them with many gifts from her hobbies.

She enjoyed applique (making Christmas stockings for her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren) knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, needle point, tole painting, ceramics, dried flower arranging, stained glass, flower gardening, greenhouse, planning family vacations, hosting family dinners, boating, cake decorating and baking cookies.

She also encouraged her children and grandchildren in sports, teaching them golf, badmitten, and croquet and attending their many sport games.

She is survived by her spouse, Elmer Emery, her son, Duane (Janice) Emery, grand children, Kelly Emery-Moore, Reid (Krista) Emery, Joy (Rick) Smawley, Christine (Kenta) Shimizu, step-granddaughters, Marcy Wetzel, Dawn Funk, 12 great grandchildren, nieces, Carol Walsh, Jayne Sharkey, Fran Strehle, Mary Murry, and nephews, Jerry Klaas, and Rich Emery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Blythe Quinn, her son, Melvin Emery, and her sister, Margaret (Peggy) Klaas.

Visitation to be held on October 31, 2013, between 3:00 and 5:00 PM, at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N Government Way, Spokane, WA.

Funeral Service to be held November 1, 2013, at 1:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church Spokane, 318 S Cedar ST, Spokane, WA.
