Obituary: Laws, Ronald

LAWS, Ronald June 8, 1935 - October 13, 2013 A long time resident of Spokane Valley, WA, Ron passed away peacefully at his home in Paradise, MT on October 13, 2013.

Ron was born in Portland, Oregon on June 8, 1935 to Burrage and Hazel Laws; Ron attended Lewis & Clark High School and proudly served in the United States Navy.

Ron spent nearly 30 years serving on the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, where he was a part of many “firsts.”

He started the County’s Boat/Safety Patrol, Motorcycle Unit (riding motorcycle #1), and began the polygraph unit just to name a few.

Oh, the stories he could tell about events in Spokane!!

One of his favorite duties was to escort Santa to the elementary schools and see all the faces light up as Santa entered the room.

Ron was always a supporter of youth sports.

He coached Babe Ruth baseball, and attended damn near every Central Valley H.S.

football and basketball game for 25 years.

He organized neighbors to build Terrace View Park and prodded the County to begin building swimming pools in the parks.

Preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Joyce in June 2008, he is survived by his sons: Randy and his wife Tammy, with granddaughter Nicole and great-grandson Jaxon, in Florence, MT; Michael and wife Paige with granddaughters Madie and Hailey in Spokane Valley; brother Gary (Marlene) of Cannon Beach, OR; and nieces and nephews: Michelle, Suzy, Pam, Troy and Todd.

The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who have been so supportive since Joyce’s passing.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
