PIERCE, Dorothy J.

(Snow) Former longtime LaCrosse resident Dorothy Jean (Snow) Pierce, 93, of Spokane passed away on October 23, 2013 at the Riverview Terrace Retirement Community in Spokane.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday October 29, 2013 at 1:00pm at the LaCrosse Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on November 6, 1919 in Moscow, Idaho to Charles and Alice (Clark) Snow.

She grew up all over the west including Idaho, California and finally settling in LaCrosse where she graduated high school.

She married Byron F. Pierce in 1942 and the couple made their home in LaCrosse.

They were co-owners of Pierce’s Grocery, a family business handed down to Byron from his father.

The couple retired in 1989 and moved to Spokane.

Dorothy was a mother to almost every child in LaCrosse and was known for her great cinnamon rolls.

She enjoyed going to the mall, being a chaperone at youth events and worked hard to better the community of LaCrosse, a town in which she lived for nearly 65 years.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Pamela (Bob) Landel of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey; son Robert (Karla) Pierce of Auburn, Washington; sister Marjorie Riederer of Spokane and her longtime companion Orville Guldseth of Spokane; as well as five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Byron in 1997 as well as her parents and five siblings.

Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s honor are suggested to the LaCrosse Cemetery Fund or to the LaCrosse Dollars for Scholars fund.

Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
