Trojans top T-Wolves in consolation final

Post Falls, the defending 5A State boys soccer champions, got goals from Jerry Southerland and Timmy Mueller and edged Lake City 2-1 in the consolation finals Saturday at Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho.

Garrett Flolo scored the Timberwolves’ lone goal.

Noah Gondo made nine saves in goal for the Trojans, thwarting Lake City’s attack.

Lakeland 2, Mountain Home 1: Brent Giera and Austin Garitone scored and Cade Coffee stopped nine shots as the Hawks edged the Bombers in the 4A State third-place game in Caldwell, Idaho.


Lake City def. Coeur d’Alene: Haile Watson had 12 kills and Madi Farrell added 13 digs, four aces and two blocks as the Timberwolves claimed a spot in the 5A State tournament with a sweep of the Vikings in Coeur d’Alene. Scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-13.

Sandpoint def. Moscow: Taylor Martin had 10 kills and Amy Shepard had three aces as the Bulldogs earned a berth to the 4A State tournament with a sweep of visiting Moscow. Scores were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-16.

Nezperce def. Clark Fork: The Indians topped the Wampus Cats 16-25, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-18 in a 1A Division I-II State play-in match. Lyndsie Kiebert had 11 kills and 20 digs for Clark Fork.

Cross country

The Northwest Christian boys had three runners finish inside the top 10 and the Crusaders edged St. George’s for the team title at the District 7 2B/1B meet at Audubon Park in Spokane.

Alex Wallat finished third to lead Northwest Christian. He covered the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes.

St. George’s Hunter Olsen was the top finisher, finishing in 16:18.

Reardan was third, followed by Republic, Davenport and Springdale.

Reardan claimed the girls title. The Indians were led by Harley Strope, who finished second in 20:17. Madison Ward of St. George’s won in 19:22.

The Republic girls were second, followed by St. George’s, Northwest Christian and St. Michael’s.
