Ex-Coug Gibson out for season

Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Gibson was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a left knee injury, ending his first season with the team.

Gibson was hurt in the first half of Sunday’s loss at New England and replaced by Rishard Matthews.

“It’s a tremendous loss,” receiver Mike Wallace said. “Brandon scored three touchdowns in the last two games, and we could definitely use that.” Gibson signed a $9.78 million, three-year contract as a free agent last offseason, and became a favorite target of Ryan Tannehill. He finished the year with 30 catches for 326 yards and three touchdowns.

Gibson finished his college career (2005-2008) at Washington State as the school’s all-time leading receiver with 2,756 yards and 182 receptions along with 17 touchdowns. Gibson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Hawks, Chiefs tied

There’s a tie this week atop the Associated Press power poll: Kansas City caught up to Seattle.

The Chiefs and Seahawks each had 369 points in the latest AP Pro32 rankings. Kansas City, the NFL’s only undefeated team, was in second place last week. Both teams won again, but Seattle had to hang on in a 14-9 win at St. Louis.

The Denver Broncos were a close third after rallying to romp past Washington, with 360 points from the 12-person panel. The Chiefs had six first-place votes, the Seahawks four and the Broncos two.

The New Orleans Saints were fourth, and the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers were tied for the fifth spot.

The Patriots acquired NT Isaac Sopoaga from the Eagles along with a sixth-round pick in 2014 for a fifth-rounder next year. Sopoaga, who spent his first nine seasons with San Francisco, had signed an $11 million, three-year deal as a free agent. Sopoaga, 32, helps replace Pro Bowl NT Vince Wilfork, who is out for the season. …The Jaguars are sticking with QB Chad Henne through the bye week. The Jaguars (0-8) play at Tennessee on Nov. 11. … The Bengals put CB Leon Hall on the injured reserve list, more than a week after he injured his right Achilles tendon. … QB Nick Foles has passed the ImPACT concussion test and practiced with the Eagles. Foles sustained a concussion in a 17-3 loss to Dallas on Oct. 20.
