Obituary: Hickman, Dorothy
Dorothy attended beauty school to become a beautician before marrying Lynnel Hickman on December 26, 1946 in Goodland, KS.
They relocated to Mica, WA where they started their family and Lynnel worked at the Mica brick plant.
The family eventually moved from Spokane to Bridgeport, WA where Lynnel worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and Dorothy would sometimes pack apples in the packing sheds in Brewster, WA.
Upon Lynnel’s retirement, they became snowbirds and so enjoyed fifth wheeling with their friends in the Good Sam’s Club, traveling to Texas and Arizona.
Lynnel passed away in 1994 while snow birding in Casa Grande at which time Dorothy moved back to Spokane to be close to family.
Dorothy loved life and its simple pleasures.
She LOVED the ZAGS and wouldn’t miss out on a game of pinochle if she could find somebody to play.
In her final years, she enjoyed living at Emilie Court Assisted Living which she loved and where she made many friends and had many new adventures (her first taxi ride).
Dorothy is survived by her two children: her son, Larry Hickman of Tumwater, WA; her daughter Charlene (Robert) Schwartz of Spokane, WA; four grandchildren: Melissa (Craig) Fillmore; Shana Simmons; Cameron (Melissa) Schwartz and Mandy (Joe Bryant) Schwartz; and eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by all her family and her good friends Betty and Sue.
Our hearts are broken but we believe Dorothy is drinking a hot cup of tea, waiting for the next ZAGS game and is no longer suffering.
No funeral or memorial will be held at Dorothy’s request.
A celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.
