Obituary: Dickinson, Malvin Earl Jr. “Butch

DICKINSON, Malvin Earl Jr. “Butch” (Age 64) Of Rathdrum, Idaho, died October 27, 2013 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.

He was born August 8, 1949, in Libby, Mont., to Malvin and Gladys Dickinson.

Butch graduated from Selkirk High School in 1968.

He joined the Army, and served in Germany as a member of a four-piece band, then voluntarily served in the Vietnam War, and was awarded two bronze stars.

He worked as a hair dresser for many years, and most recently worked as a nursing assistant at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Spokane.

An accomplished bass player, Butch loved music, especially playing with family and friends.

He collected basketball cards, and enjoyed travel.

Butch is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters Tasha Dickinson (husband Todd), Kaylee Johnston (husband Josh), and Alina Portwood (husband Allen); stepsons Craig and Daniel Hoibakk; as well as a grandson, and four granddaughters.

He was a member of Hayden Bible Church in Hayden, ID.

A viewing will be held Thursday Oct. 31 through Sat.

Nov. 2 between the hours of 9am - 5pm at English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, 1133 N. Fourth St., in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., in Medical Lake, WA.

Following the burial, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the Spokane Veterans Administration Medical Center, 4815 N. Assembly St., Spokane, in the community living center cafeteria.

Monday evening a reception will be held at 5pm at Hayden Bible Church, 290 E. Miles Ave. in Hayden, Idaho.
