After graduating from East High School in 1945, he attended business school at Stevens Henager Business College from 1948 to 1950.
He served in the US Navy in WWII aboard the USS Princeton and was honorably discharged in 1947 as a Yeoman Third Class with a WWII Victory Medal.
His marriage to Beverly Lund in 1949 produced three children, Kevin, Robin and Brian.
They later divorced.
Mark worked for the Morrison Knudsen Company for 40 years working his way up to Vice President of International Accounts.
His career took him to many locations around the world, including Vietnam, Portugal, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Canada.
While living in Brazil he met and married Lea Alves deFaria.
Together they had three sons, Daniel, Fernando, and Marcos.
Mark took early retirement after surviving lung cancer in 1987.
He and Lea made Spokane their home until his passing from a recurrence of cancer on October 24, 2013.
For over 20 years he was very active in water aerobics and excelled in his classes at Oz Fitness’ northside location.
Everyone he met had the pleasure of enjoying his witty humor and infectious smile.
He was one of a kind and will dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife Lea, sister Marilyn, brother Gary, five children, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by two brothers, Reid and Boyd, his son Fernando, and grandson Jad.
A memorial service is planned for November 2nd at 2 pm at Spokane Cremation and Funeral Services located at 2832 N. Ruby St. in Spokane, WA.
