No-hitter for Hops

Kyle Schepel threw a complete-game no-hitter Saturday night to lead the Hillsboro Hops to a 5-0 win over the host Boise Hawks in Northwest League play. Schepel (1-0) struck out eight and walked one as the Hops improved their second-half record to 21-15, one game better than the Hawks with two games to go. Hillsboro is attempting to catch Salem-Keizer (22-14) for the South Division second-half title and a postseason spot. S-K won the first half and has already qualified for the playoffs. Schepel pitched seven strong innings, striking out eight, in a no-decision against the Spokane Indians on Aug. 20 at Avista Stadium.
