Busch locks up a spot in chase

With a big hand from his pit crew, Kyle Busch locked up his spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship with his fourth victory of the year Sunday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga.

Busch emerged with the lead after a rapid-fire series of caution flags near the end, and he held off hard-charging Joey Logano to win by 0.740 seconds.

“My boys on pit road,” Busch said. “They’re amazing. I would do anything for them.”

Martin Truex Jr., racing with a broken right wrist, was third on the 1.54-mile trioval, followed by Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman.

The rest of the top 10: Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Brian Vickers.

Kyle Busch was among three more drivers locking up their spot in the Chase heading to Richmond next weekend, where the 12-car field will be set for the playoff. He was joined by Harvick and Carl Edwards.

NASCAR Truck

Chase Elliott wrecked Ty Dillon on the last lap to win the NASCAR Truck Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Elliott plowed into Dillon on the final turn on the 2.459-mile road course to take the lead and went on to his first series victory. At 17 years, 9 months, 4 days, he became the youngest winner in series history.

IndyCar

Simon Pagenaud emerged as the winner of a collision-marred Grand Prix of Baltimore, charging to the lead after a series of mishaps involving several other contenders – including one involving rivals Scott Dixon and Will Power.

Josef Newgarden took second place and Sebastien Bourdais finished third.

MotoGP

Jorge Lorenzo of Spain won the British Moto GP at Silverstone, England, despite being overtaken by championship leader and countryman Marc Marquez during the final lap.

Honda rider Marquez, who started the race in pole position, dislocated his left shoulder in the warmup and was overtaken early in the race by Lorenzo.
