In brief: Four young people die in fiery crash

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Four young people ages 18 to 20 were killed on a highway north of New York City when their car drifted from the road, traveled 100 yards on a grassy shoulder, then slammed into a bridge abutment and caught fire, police said.

The accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. Sunday in Greenburgh, about 20 miles north of New York City, a state official said.

Police were still investigating Sunday what caused the vehicle to veer off the highway.

A woman who passed the scene called police to report a massive car fire, police said. Firefighters put out the flames at about 5:45 a.m. and found all four of the car’s occupants dead.

Toddler dies after being shot in head

NEW YORK – A 1-year-old boy has died after being shot in the head in New York City.

Antiq Hennis was being pushed in a stroller by his mother and father while crossing a street in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn about 7:20 p.m. Sunday when the shooting occurred, police said. They said multiple shots were fired.

Authorities say the child was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left side of his face but did not survive his injuries.

House fire claims four children’s lives

ELMIRA, N.Y. – A family member confirmed that four children from ages 5 to 17 died after fire gutted the home where they were living.

Paula Parker told the Elmira Star-Gazette that she’s the aunt of the victims, who were living for the past year with their mother at the home Parker and her husband own in Elmira, near the Pennsylvania border.
