Obituary: Hanney, Roy F.

Age 97

HANNEY, Roy F. (Age 97) Roy Hanney was born July 8, 1916 in Waverly, Iowa.

He passed away September 3, 2013.

He was one of four children born to James Anthony and Laura Anne Hanney in Waverly, Iowa.

The family later moved to Eldorado, Kansas.

Roy began grade school in 1923 in Eldorado, Kansas.

He graduated from High School in 1935.

After graduating he moved to Oklahoma City to live with his sister.

He was married to Mary Katherine Bell in 1938.

To this union was born one daughter Royce Lynn Hanney, March 17, 1943.

When World War II began, Roy joined the Air Corp and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas.

After completion of Pilot Training he was transferred to a base in Europe.

While there he was the pilot of a bomber and flew 60 missions over Germany and played a vital role of helping the United States win the war.

After his tour of duty he returned to Wichita, Kansas.

He went to work with the Business Men’s Assurance which was an insurance company.

He was later transferred to Spokane in 1952.

He was in charge of the Inland Empire region which included Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana and has resided in Spokane for the past sixty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Laura Hanney; daughter Royce; two brothers: William Louis Hanney and James Hanney; one sister: Regina Maxine Hanney, his first wife, Mary Katherine Hanney and his second wife, Mary Curnet Hanney.

He is survived by his nephew, Martin Roy Hanney of Wichita, Kansas, a grandson, James Roy Bateman of Dallas, Texas, a grandnephew Christopher James Hanney and five grandnieces: Jayne Marie Hanney, Sarah Elizabeth Hanney, Jennifer Alyce Hanney, Katherine Marie Hanney and Amber Hanney, all of Wichita, Kansas.

Mary Lorene Winningham, a niece, Pamla Kay Winningham, a niece and Alan Jay Winning ham a nephew, all of Seattle, WA; brother-in-law John Winningham of Mountain City, TN.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 1:00PM at First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Counrty Homes Blvd, Spokane, WA.

In lieu of flowers it was Roy’s request that memorial contributions be made in his name to the First Church of the Nazarene in Spokane, WA for the church organ fund.
