Obituary: Johnson, Lilburn “Johnie”

Age 93

JOHNSON, Lilburn “Johnie” (Age 93) Passed away September 3, 2013, in Spokane, WA.

Johnie was born June 13, 1920, at the farm near Flaxton, ND to Bert and Gilma Granrud Johnson, the third of seven children.

He left home as a young teenager, working at several jobs until he joined the U.S. Army in 1940.

He served in Alaska and Europe, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He met his future wife, Doris Winn, in Seattle, WA in 1943.

They married in Oklahoma on March 5, 1944.

He worked in construction and then as a heavy-duty mechanic until he retired in 1982.

He has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1952.

Johnie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris; son, Dale (Jean) Johnson; daughter, Karen (David) Clark; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013, from 2 to 5 PM at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 3 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4704 North Wall Street, Spokane, WA 99205.

Johnie will be interred at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
