In brief: Spokane Fair set to host event

Rodeo: A wide variety of cowboys and cowgirls making season-ending pushes are on display Friday and Saturday at the Spokane Interstate Fair Rodeo.

Those hoping to make the Columbia River Circuit finals make up the bulk of the field for the 7 p.m. performances Friday and Saturday but there are some making a run at the National Finals Rodeo mixed in.

The top 15 in the national PRCA standings at the end of September earn a trip to Las Vegas for the NFR. That means there are some big names, including a couple past world champions. Corey & Lange Rodeo Company out of Moses Lake is providing the stock and Debi Davies of Nine Mile Falls, who has worked the NFR, is the secretary.

CV will add 13 to Wall of Fame

Honors: Central Valley High School will introduce 13 former athletes and coaches to its Wall of Fame on Friday during halftime of the season-opening football game against Ferris.

The inductees are: Rick Seefried, Ed Garcia, John Seefried, Brent Harkin, Cheryl Krieg, Sherryl Dodge, Pam Thompson, Quentin Clark, Stan Chalich and Chuck Randall.

• Lakeland High School has created a Hall of Fame and will induct its charter class consisting of former athletes and coaches at a ceremony Saturday at the school.

The inductees are: Ken Salesky, Dick Schultz, Randy Colton, Dana (Antonelli) Stiegemeier, Mark Kiefer, Tracy Hanson, Heather (Hosheit) Wilson, Kole Clauson, Josh Phelps, Terry Kiefer, Casey Phelps, Sky Pruitt, Kara Kiefer and Jim Whiteman.

WCC unveils women’s schedule

Basketball: The West Coast Conference on Wednesday released its first 10-team league schedule for women’s basketball, which is set to begin on Dec. 28 when Gonzaga plays at Saint Mary’s.

The defending WCC champion Bulldogs are also set to face San Diego, last season’s WCC runner-up, on Jan. 11 as part of the double round-robin format that concludes on March 1.

Other big games include GU at BYU on Feb 15 and Saint Mary’s at GU on Feb. 27. The WCC tournament will be held March 6-11 in Las Vegas.

Chiefs tickets go on sale today

Hockey: Tickets to individual Spokane Chiefs regular-season home games go on sale today.

Tickets for the 36-game home schedule are available by calling 535-PUCK, (800) 325-SEAT or logging on to www.ticketswest.com.

The Chiefs’ first home game is Sept. 28 against the Tri-City Americans.
