AMBER Alert issued for Idaho girl believed abducted by grandparents

Aaliyah Esqueda
From staff reports
An AMBER Alert was issued this evening for a five-year-old girl from Idaho Falls. Police believe the girl is being taken to Mexico by her grandparents. Aaliyah Esqueda has been with her paternal grandparents, Irene and Salvador Esqueda, since Sept. 3 on a scheduled visit, according to authorities. This weekend, Aaliyah was to be returned to her maternal grandparents, Debra and Scott Yagues, who have legal guardianship of the girl. A Facebook message was sent from a relative of the Esquedas, saying they were taking the girl to Mexico to be with her father. Detectives believe the paternal grandparents left Idaho Falls with Aaliyah on a bus bound for Mexico at 11 p.m. Thursday night. Idaho Falls police were made aware of the incident at about 2:45 Friday. Aaliyah is Hispanic, with brown hair and brown eyes. She’s about 3-feet-5-inches and 50 pounds. Irene Esqueda, 71, is Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes. She’s about 5 feet, 4 inches and 178 pounds. Salvador Esqueda, 74, is Hispanic with gray hair and brown eyes. He’s about 5-foot-5 and 160 pounds. Anyone with information about the child’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Idaho Falls Police Department at (208) 529-1200 immediately.
