Kendall Yards planning three commercial buildings

The developer of the Kendall Yards property near downtown Spokane has plans for three new commercial buildings, including two restaurants and a retail-residential project called the Highline Lofts.

The two new restaurants are planned for parcels across the street from Central Food, which opened in 2012 as Kendall Yards’ first commercial building.

Greenstone Corp., the project developer, has built more than 100 townhouse or terrace units along with another 84 apartments in the residential section of Kendall Yards.

The 73-acre Kendall Yards property is the largest mixed-use development in the city of Spokane.

Adam Jones, a commercial manager for Greenstone, said the two restaurants will be built on West Summit Parkway directly east of the Washington State Court of Appeals. The restaurant owners plan to announce their opening dates later this year or early next year, Jones said.

The Highline Lofts will have six retail spaces on the main level, with 24 studio and one-bedroom apartments above.

Greenstone is beginning construction this month and expects occupancy in spring.

Jones said he’s had inquiries about the main-level units but has signed no deals, adding “we should have no difficulty in filling those spaces.”

The second Kendall Yards commercial building, east of Central Foods, is being filled by Spa Paradiso and the Inlander weekly newspaper.

Jones said a third restaurant deal is also under consideration. If the deal is signed, the restaurant would take the parcel of land separating Central Foods and Spa Paradiso on the south side of Summit Parkway.

Building permit applications say construction of Highline Lofts will cost roughly $2.5 million. The building will have about 27,000 square feet of space and include 150 parking spaces on the back side of the project.

Jones said those 150 spots are designed to accommodate a number of Kendall Yards commercial customers, not just those who will use the Highline Lofts.
