Scotties edge Indians

Colville’s last-minute drive ends in a fumble

Colville’s comeback attempt ended with a fumble in the final minute and Freeman held on to beat the Indians 14-7 in a nonleague football season-opener Friday night in Colville.

The Scotties built a 14-0 lead through three quarters, but Colville made it interesting in the fourth.

The Indians’ Tyler Ward caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Ben Ward to cut the lead to 14-7. Colville then got the ball back late, but a fumble at Freeman’s 40-yard line sealed it.

Freeman’s Max Laib scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Columbia-Inchelium 36, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 32: Quentin Holford had the winning 5-yard touchdown run with 41 seconds remaining to help visiting Columbia-Inchelium edge Almira/Coulee-Hartline. The Warriors were within striking distance with 3 seconds remaining, but their final pass from the 10-yard line was knocked down as time expired. Holford recorded 151 yards on 25 carries with four touchdowns for Columbia-Inchelium. Dallas Isaak led the offensive effort for Almira/Coulee-Hartline with 221 yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns. Isaak also was 6 of 13 passing for 94 yards and two more scores.

Wilbur-Creston 58, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 16: Wilbur-Creston cruised to an easy victory at LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus. Quarterback Tristan Rosman threw for six touchdowns and added another on the ground to account for seven of the eight Wildcats scores. Colton Magers was Rosman’s favorite target, catching five of the six touchdowns passes.

Touchet 46, Odessa-Harrington 28: The Indians started fast with 24 first-quarter points and rolled to a win over visiting Odessa-Harrington. Touchet quarterback Elias Martinez tossed two early touchdowns to set the tone and also ran for a score. The Indians used a balanced rushing attack, as Colter McKeown, Edgar Rincon, and Colton Gobel combined for 170 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans’ Sam Schaefer ran for two touchdowns and passed for another in a losing effort.

St. John-Endicott 62, Wellpinit 16: Wade West ran for 201 yards and scored six touchdowns to guide St. John-Endicott past visiting Wellpinit. Wilson Lundberg added 89 yards and a score for the Eagles, who outscored the Redskins 20-0 in the second quarter to take a 42-8 lead at halftime. St. John-Endicott quarterback Weston Whinery added 58 rushing yards on five carries.

Kootenai 50, Lakeside (ID) 12: Kootenai toppled Lakeside in Plummer. Warriors’ quarterback Jake Pfeiffer was 10 of 22 for 210 yards and three touchdowns and was augmented by two 100-plus-yard ground performances from Morgan Willms and Fimeon Desautel. For Lakeside, Brandon Gauthier threw for 136 yards on 6-of-10 passing with one touchdown for the Knights.

Potlatch 16, Garfield-Palouse 12: Two-point conversions made the difference as Potlatch secured a victory over visiting Garfield-Palouse. Jesse Lopez caught two touchdown passes for Garfield-Palouse. Quarterback David Amos ran for a touchdown and threw for another for Potlatch.

Grangeville 31, Kellogg 6: At Grangeville, the Bulldogs defeated Wildcats. The Bulldogs defense was led by Eli Eacles, who recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown, and Josh Dame, who returned an interception for a touchdown. Dame also added an 84-yard punt return for a touchdown. James Red scored the only touchdown for the Wildcats on a 49-yard run.

Colton 62, Mullan 20: At Colton, the Wildcats powered their way to a blowout against visiting Mullan. The Wildcats returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and got another score on a kick return. Quarterback Jake Straughan had touchdown runs of 76, 81 and 13 yards, and threw for touchdowns of 55 yards to Dalton Patchen and 81 yards to Dillon Frank. Colton scored so easily that it only ran 14 offensive plays, by coach Clark Vining’s count. Straughan ran five times for 206 yards and connected on all five of his passing attempts for 196 yards. Frank gained 109 yards receiving and Patchen had 87 yards.

Tri-Cities Prep 35, Liberty 8: Tri-Cities Prep controlled host Liberty at Spangle. Rama Rudolph scored three touchdowns on the ground and added another receiving, and ran for the bulk of his team’s 230 rushing yards. Dane Pedersen threw for two touchdowns on the evening, including one to his brother, Bennett, in the fourth quarter.

Davenport 56, Lake Roosevelt 0: Chris Faulkner ran for three touchdowns and Tommy Wilkie two as Davenport blanked Lake Roosevelt at Coulee Dam. All seven of the Gorillas’ touchdowns came on the ground with Austin Zeller and Wyatt Boggs adding scores. All seven 2-point conversions also came on runs.

Soap Lake 34, Republic 18: At Republic, Soap Lake defeated the Tigers. Joe Cutshall led Soap Lake with three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. Nic Kapolo had one receiving touchdown and one rushing touchdown for Soap Lake. Alex Rivera scored three rushing touchdowns for Republic.

Rosalia 50, Cove, Ore., 22: Craig Nelson rushed for 260 yards and four touchdowns as Rosalia won at Cove, Ore. Ryan Maley added one rushing and one passing touchdown for the visiting Spartans, who are playing as an independent this season.

Selkirk 72, Northport 0: The Rangers racked up 30 first-quarter points en route to a dominating win over the visiting Mustangs.
