Obituary: Jones, A.H. “Pug”
Age 83
She was the eldest of three children.
Most of her youth was spent in Comanche.
Like all depression-era kids, she worked hard at the family soda fountain and bus station.
She was smart and loved to read.
She attended Hillcrest School of Nursing and Baylor College.
On August 7, 1950, Pug was set-up on a blind date with a handsome Air Force Cadet named Jug Jones.
The way she told the story he literally swept her off her feet.
They were married December 16, 1950.
Pug graduated and received her R.N.
degree in March, 1951.
Jug received his Stars and Bars that June.
In March, 1952, they had their first of three children, Jo Ellen, with Biff and Jeri soon to follow.
Pug was a skilled surgical nurse and dedicated to her career until a devastating on the job injury forced her to retire.
She was a gifted artist, a Master Gardner and avid birdwatcher.
She always had at least one work in progress.
However, Pug’s true love was fishing.
In 1982, she and Jug set out for the trip of their life.
They spent their time fishing and travelling, searching for new oceans to conquer.
After they settled down in San Diego, under the name A.H. “Pug” Jones, she not only caught world record fish, but published articles and photographs in numerous magazines and newspapers and was a respected and renowned figure in the sport of game fishing.
She became a representative for the International Game Fishing Association (a position normally held by a man) holding that position for seven years.
Pug held eight world records and has a permanent marker at the I.G.F.A.
headquarters in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, H.L.
“Jug” Jones, who cared for her with love and dedication for their entire 63 years together; her sister, Joyce White; and her brother, Brent Waldrop.
Pug is also survived by her three children, Jo Ellen Jones, Biff Jones (Patti) and Jeri Arnold (Jim).
She leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews that she “lova lova loved” dearly.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 13, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at Evergreen Fountains, Spokane Valley, Washington.
