Obituary: Zahniser, Frank Robinson

Age 77

ZAHNISER, Frank Robinson (Age 77) Born in Spokane, WA on August 30, 1936, to Anna Kinkade and Frank Zahniser.

Frank passed away September 1, 2013 peacefully in his sleep.

He went to Woodrow Wilson Elementary and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1954.

He graduated from Washington State University in 1959, where he met his lifelong partner and love, Lee “Dixie” Drake.

He joined the United States Air Force, became a KC-135 pilot, served in Vietnam, and retired as a Lt.

Colonel in 1981.

He moved home to Spokane and went back to school to become a CPA.

He worked for the Washington State Auditor’s office and retired at the age of 65 in 2001.

Frank was active in many hobbies throughout his life, and wherever he was, he made a lasting impact.

He enjoyed sailing, dog obedience training, sports, and being an enologist.

He was instrumental in the success of the Spokane Enological Society.

In retirement he volunteered every year for AARP Tax Aid, was active in an investment club, and was a volunteer for the Spokane Symphony.

He was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother: Lowell Demar Byrd Jr.

He is survived by his wife: Dixie Zahniser; daughters: Lynn Zahniser and Debra Stewart; and grandchildren: Elizabeth Van Flandern, Miles Stewart, and Alexander Stewart.

He is also survived by his sister: Catherine Diehl, and cousins: Martha Witter and Mary Summerson.

There are also many nieces and nephews that were blessed to know him.

A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held September 13, 2013, at 3:30 PM, at First Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House of Spokane, 367 E. 7th Ave., Spokane, WA 99202, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Spokane.
