Tip leads to arrests in holdups

By The Spokesman-Review

An ex-girlfriend with an apparent grudge is to thank for two arrests made in a string of robberies earlier this year.

Andrew W. Carr, 27, and Marshall M. Barkdull, 27, have been accused of robbing a Pizza Rita restaurant on May 22 and Herbal Connections marijuana shop on May 27, according to Spokane police.

The two became suspects when Carr’s ex-girlfriend told detectives they were responsible for the robberies, according to a police report.

The girlfriend is in jail awaiting trial on unrelated assault and theft charges.

Detectives believe Barkdull drove the getaway car while Carr robbed the two businesses using Barkdull’s gun. Police say the suspects split the money and marijuana from the robberies.

Carr was earlier arrested on suspicion of robbing a Hot Toddy’s coffee stand in June. Police said Carr assaulted the barista, pepper spraying her then stealing her car.

Carr was already in jail awaiting trial on that robbery when investigators obtained the new information implicating him in the Pizza Rita and Herbal Connection holdups.

Police responded to a string of nearly a dozen robberies earlier this year and most are now solved, police said.
