WCC honors GU’s Ludwigs

Lars Ludwigs, Gonzaga University’s junior midfielder whose play in two shutout victories was instrumental in the Bulldogs’ first road sweep since 2008, was named the West Coast Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week.

After a 2-0 win over 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara gave GU its first win over a ranked opponent since 2007, Ludwigs scored the winning goal in the second OT of a 1-0 win at Cal Poly.

NWL baseball

With hometown boy Tom Robson allowing just three hits over 6 1/3 innings, the Vancouver Canadians shut out the Boise Hawks 5-0 Monday night at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver to capture a third straight Northwest League championship.

Robson, who is from the Vancouver area, had a 1.12 ERA during the regular season.

After losing the first game of the best-of-three NWL finals 5-0 in Boise, Vancouver came home to post a 4-2 victory Sunday that forced Monday’s decisive game.

Men’s golf

The Inland Empire PGA Pro-Am at Circling Raven Golf Club was suspended Monday due to darkness. It will resume at 10 a.m. today.
