In memory: As the nation commemorates the thousands of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, a local fire lieutenant is working to commemorate the 17 firefighters who have died in the line of duty since the creation of Spokane’s fire department in 1890. Faraway conflict brought near: Opposing billboards have cropped up in Coeur d’Alene, featuring opposing views on the United States’ involvement in Israel. Transient sentenced: A transient who terrorized a married couple at knifepoint in their South Hill home was sentenced to 19 ½ years Tuesday.
