GOP used to like reform

I found an article among many clippings in a scrapbook: “When Mandates Weren’t Rotten.” Did you know when President Bill and Hilary Clinton were trying to reform health care, the Republicans had a plan? In 1993, Sens. David Durenberger of Minnesota and John Chafee of Rhode Island co-sponsored a bill and 18 other Republicans signed on.

As Kaiser Health News points out, it included: “A mandate that individuals buy insurance, subsidies for the poor to buy insurance and the requirement that insurers offer a standard benefits package and refrain from discriminating based on pre-existing conditions.”

Sound familiar? It should, because those are the key provisions of Obamacare, which is now deemed by the GOP to be a socialist, unconstitutional plot.
