Pick 6: Greg Lee and Sam Adams’ prep football picks of week
I’ve had better starts. Hats off to KHQ/SWX sports director Sam Adams for his opening-week victory.
Coeur d’Alene’s 44-43 loss to Bothell kept yours truly from a tie. And not even our predetermined tiebreaker – the margin of victory in the Central Valley/Ferris game – would have broken a stalemate since we both missed badly by picking CV.
Sam has reason to gloat. If you see me with a grocery bag over my head you’ll know why.
I’m either going to tighten things up this week or fall into a deeper hole.
Remember, this is for our embarrassment only.
Last week: Adams 5-1, Lee 3-3
Shadle Park vs. Ferris
(Today, Joe Albi Stadium, 4:15 p.m.)
Lee: Ferris 31-27. Albi’s new scoreboard could get a workout.
Adams: Ferris 42-34. This is a classic case of a prolific offense against a stingy defense. I’ll give the Saxons the edge here.
Mt. Spokane vs. LC
(Tonight, Albi, 7:15 p.m.)
Lee: Lewis and Clark 27-14. The Tigers will have a big bounce back.
Adams: LC 28-14. By far the toughest game to pick this week. LC got pounded by Gonzaga Prep in Week 1, but I think the Tigers will grind out a hard-fought win.
East Valley at Lakeland
(Friday, Lakeland HS, 7 p.m.)
Lee: Lakeland 24-21. The Hawks’ kicker, Cade Coffey, will be the difference.
Adams: EV 36-14. EV certainly has a lot of weapons on offense, but it’s hard to judge where Lakeland is after the Hawks opened against 5A Lewiston.
Post Falls vs. Sandpoint
(Friday, EWU, 7 p.m.)
Lee: Post Falls 34-14. The Trojans desperately need a win.
Adams: The Sandpoint offense is starting to come around, but the defense needs to get there, too. PF 35-21.
Pullman at Freeman
(Friday, Freeman HS, 7 p.m.)
Lee: Pullman 20,-14. Another great GNL/NEA matchup, but the GNL prevails.
Adams: Freeman 28-14. I’m sticking on the Scotties train. If they start believing they can win, all of those offseason workouts will have paid off.
Skyline at Coeur d’Alene
(Friday, CdA HS, 8 p.m.)
Lee: CdA 40-36. CdA earns redemption after last year’s humiliating defeat.
Adams: CdA got blasted by Skyline last year (71-20), but that was with Max Browne at quarterback. I have the Vikings getting payback on their home turf. CdA 48-35.
