Tonight’s NFL game: Jets at Patriots

Records: Jets (1-0), Patriots (1-0)

Time: 5:25 p.m. TV: NFL Network. Line: Patriots by 12

Synopsis: I respect the resiliency of New York Jets fans.

It took just one week – and a helpful push from Tampa Bay LB Lavonte David – for the Jets’ faithful to be energized by their team’s improbable, come-from-behind win (and cover) against the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Gang Green has a challenge tonight going against a banged-up Patriots squad, who will be without RB Shane Vereen, and possibly WR Danny Amendola. But last time I checked, Tom Brady is still the Pats QB.

Although the Pats didn’t cover at Buffalo last week, they are 11-6-1 ATS (against the spread) in their last 18 AFC East games dating back to Oct., 2010.

The Jets are a mediocre 6-6 ATS in their last 12 trips to Foxborough. However, the road team is: 21-8-1 ATS in the last 30 contests between the two AFC East rivals.

This is too big a spread in a divisional game for me. I don’t think the Jets will open 2-0, but they’ll keep this one close enough.

The pick: Jets
