Obituary: Hooker, Jerry Allen

Age 78

HOOKER, Jerry Allen (Age 78) Of Coeur d’Alene died September 11, 2013 at Hospice House of North Idaho.

He was born February 13, 1935 in Boise, ID to Robert and Ella (Daly) Hooker.

When he was quite young the family moved to Bellevue, WA where they lived in a tent and his father worked at the Bremerton shipyards.

The family then moved to Cle Elum, WA where Jerry began school.

He was raised on a dairy farm where he and his dad milked a herd of cows daily.

Jerry was in the ninth grade when the family moved to San Bernardino, CA.

He graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1953 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

He served three years in Korea as a telegraph operator and was discharged in 1956.

Jerry and Mary Lee Larson were married in San Bernardino on May 28, 1955.

He soon joined the San Bernardino Police Department as a motorcycle policeman.

After being thrown off, run over, shot at, and many other mishaps, he took a medical retirement and moved with his family to the quiet of North Idaho.

Jerry joined the Kootenai County Sheriffs Department in 1977 and retired in 1995.

Jerry loved his family, his house on the hill, his motorcycle, and traveling and camping in his motor home.

He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

His wife, Mary, passed away in 1997 and Jerry met the other blond in his life, Janet in 2000, having known her before at the Sheriff’s Department.

They were together for over 13 years.

He is survived by his companion, Janet Launhardt of Coeur d’Alene; son, Douglas and wife, Debbie of Palmer, AK; son, Daniel of Coeur d’Alene; daughter, Judi and husband, Tim of Post Falls; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a niece, Norma Cross of San Bernardino, CA; a nephew, Bob and Patti Cross of Shepherdsville, KY; and Janet’s family, children, grandchildren, sister and brother who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Cross and grand-nephew, David Cross.

The memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2013 at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements.
