Obituary: Smith Iii, Del C.

SMITH III, Del Cary, Del Cary Smith III, 59, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2013, after losing a battle with cancer.

Born in Spokane, Washington April 3, 1953, to the late Judge Del Cary Smith, Jr. and Millie Smith, he enjoyed growing up in Spokane.

Del graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in 1971, then moved to Seattle earning a degree in English Literature at the University of Washington.

In 1977, Del began a long career in the Marine Corps where he pursued his passion for aviation.

Captain Smith served as a Bombardier/Navigator on the A-6 Intruder for many years in many countries.

In later years Del settled in Mission Viejo, California, becoming Customer Service Supervisor with the Orange County Postal Service.

He was an avid scuba diver and passionate about animals, music, astronomy and oceanography.

Del is survived by his mother Millie Smith Rotchford, sisters Sara Smith Perkins and Charlene Smith Conde, niece Marit Perkins and brother-in-law Santiago Conde.

A private memorial was held at the family home in Cannon Beach, Oregon.
