Foot injury likely to sideline Okung

NFL: Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says left tackle Russell Okung (pictured) is unlikely to play on Sunday against Jacksonville after suffering a foot injury against San Francisco.

Carroll would not give specifics on the severity of Okung’s injury on Monday. He said the team is still awaiting more information before coming to a determination on how long they’ll be without their Pro Bowl lineman.

Okung was injured on the final play of the first quarter on Sunday night, following a 60-minute weather delay.

King Felix to skip another turn

MLB: Felix Hernandez is not ready to return to Seattle’s starting rotation.

Hernandez, who has been bothered by an oblique strain, threw a bullpen session Monday in Detroit, but the Mariners say Hisashi Iwakuma will start against the Tigers on Wednesday night, Hernandez’s regular spot, followed by James Paxton on Thursday. Erasmo Ramirez is slated to start against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

Eagles get week to rest, prepare

College football: A Football Championship Subdivision showdown in Huntsville, Texas, is on the horizon for Eastern Washington, but first the Eagles will rest up and have a chance to study their next opponent.

Despite losing 33-21 last week to Toledo of the Football Bowl Subdivision, Eastern remains second behind top-ranked North Dakota State in The Sports Network Top 25 FCS Poll released Monday.

Montana State is third, Montana ninth.

The 2-1 Eagles have a bye this week before facing fifth-ranked Sam Houston State on Sept. 28 in Huntsville.

Eastern, which is fourth in the FCS Coaches Poll just ahead of SHSU, will practice twice this week before resuming daily practices next Monday.
