Wow! My wife and I toured the just completed Jefferson School on Sept. 7. It is spectacular inside and out. It is a grand improvement to the neighborhood. The building needs to be seen to fully appreciate what the planners and architects have accomplished. This is also true of the soon-to-be-completed athletic field improvements.
An additional benefit of this project is the placement of a traffic light at 37th Avenue and Grand Boulevard. The Spokane school district and Spokane Transit Authority were instrumental in moving the concept to the planning stage by demonstrating the need and donating seed funding for it. Credit also goes to the city engineers and traffic department who helped justify the need to the federal government in order to bring federal funds to help pay for this long-needed improvement. This traffic light brings order to a long dysfunctional and dangerous intersection, benefiting pedestrians and motorists alike.
Many thanks go to the city of Spokane voters who passed the bond that paid the bills.
