Obituary: Howell, Don W. Sr.
Age 61
He was born in Corwell, TX to Henry and Melba Howell.
He attended school in Dimmit, TX and was involved in, as well as president of FFA.
He enlisted in the Navy from 1957-1979.
He was at various Naval stations on the East and West coasts.
He fought in the Vietnam War and had various positions; including Chief Petty Officer and Career Counselor.
After retiring from the Navy he worked in aerospace companies and retired from Lockheed Martin.
He then moved back to his hometown of Dimmit, TX to take care of his parents.
He left many friends back in Texas when he moved to Spokane, WA to be closer to his family.
He loved to bowl and was involved in various bowling leagues throughout the years with his son Don.
He was involved in the Girl’s Ponytail Softball League where he managed his daughter’s team and took them all the way to the National Championship in 1974.
He was a very generous man and well-liked by all.
Don was always a Texan at heart.
He was never seen without his western wear; especially his cowboy hat and boots.
He is preceded in death by parents Henry and Melba Howell.
Survived by his sister Marilyn Gossett of Apple Valley, CA .
His children Rita Adams (Kinley) of Coursegold, CA; John Howell of Spokane, WA; Kandi Zelmer of San Andrea, CA; Don Howell Jr. of Spokane, WA; and Laurie Meier (Craig) of Spokane, WA.
Nine grandchildren, former wife Nancy Priest of Spokane, WA, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at Spokane Cremation 2832 N Ruby St, Spokane, WA 99207 Wednesday September 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM; with Military Honors to follow at Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery 21702 W. Espanola Rd Medical Lake WA at 2:15 PM.
