Obituary: Bonk, Ted H.

Age 92

BONK, Ted H. (Age 92) Passed away September 13, 2013 in Spokane.

Ted was born to Carl A. and Lydia E. Bonk, November 1, 1920, in Sprague, WA.

Ted spent most of his life in Sprague.

He graduated from high school in 1938 and married a classmate Pauline Kirchhoffer in 1940.

To this union was born 4 children: Rick, Terry, Dan and Tedi.

Ted went to work for Washington Water Power in 1938 and worked for them until he enlisted in the Army in 1942.

After serving in the military, he returned for a short time to work for WWP Co. in Davenport.

He then came back to Sprague and worked as an apprentice store manager until 1951 when he became a Rural Mail Carrier until retirement in 1980.

He also ran Ted’s Radio and Television repair shop in Sprague for 25 years.

Ted served as Commander of the local Legion Post and 8th District Commander of the American Legion.

He was past member of the Lions Club, past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Cub Scout Master.

He also served eight years on city council and 16 years as cemetery commissioner.

Ted was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church since 1933.

Survivors include Rick (Karen) Bonk of Seattle, Terry (Margie) Bonk of Medical Lake, Dan (Carol) Bonk of Sprague, Tedi (George) Worn of Cheney; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister Evelyn (Jack) Spurgeon and brother Virgil Bonk.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague with burial at Maccabee Cemetery in Sprague.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St John’s Lutheran Church or Maccabee Cemetery.
