Edwards signs with Seahawks

NFL: Former Eastern Washington receiver Nicholas Edwards was added to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on Thursday.

Edwards originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals after the 2013 draft, but was released on Aug. 6.

The Tacoma native caught 215 passes for 2,634 yards and 33 touchdowns at EWU. His best season came in 2011, when as a junior he was a consensus FCS All-American after catching a school-record 95 passes for 1,250 yards.

Edwards served as strength and conditioning assistant for EWU before signing with Seattle.

Felix expected to start Sunday

MLB: Felix Hernandez is expected to start Seattle’s game Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels after being sidelined with an oblique strain.

Hernandez threw a bullpen session Thursday in Detroit. He has not pitched since Sept. 2.

Hernandez also threw a bullpen session Monday, but the Mariners decided not to rush their ace back during the series against the Tigers. The 27-year-old right-hander is 12-9 with a 3.01 ERA this year.
