Hazardous relics: Today, the main shaft of a historic mine outside of Osburn, Idaho, is a forgotten hole, a dangerous and accessible 12-foot-wide puncture in the hillside that drops 300 feet or more into the earth. It’s not the only hole like it in Idaho—510 forgotten mineshafts dot the Idaho Panhandle, presenting a danger to hikers and hunters. Governor steps in: Governor Jay Inslee has stepped into the fight over a July expansion of Spokane County’s urban grown area, including newly-designated industrial land near Fairchild Air Force Base. High schoolers go Ivy League: North Central High School is one of only 15 schools worldwide offering AP Cambridge, a specialty course designed to develop independent research and collaborative teamwork skills.
