Need fun? Follow the yellow brick road

Where to begin?

Maybe with all the concerts this week. Matt Nathanson and Plain White T’s. Jason Aldean and Kid Rock. Steve Earle and the Spokane Symphony.

Maybe with the movies – in September, nonetheless. OK, none of them are particularly well reviewed, except “Prisoners,” with Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello and Terrence Howard. Of course, you already know “The Wizard of Oz” – spruced up in IMAX and 3-D – is going to look amazing.

Let’s talk geographic diversity. Out on the West Plains, comedian Ron White will perform at Northern Quest, while out east, the long-running Valleyfest will set up shop for three days of fun.

And from the “just plain weird” files, illusionist Jay Owenhouse slips into town Saturday – a week in advance of his Sept. 28 gig at the INB – for a Houdini-esque preview. Think straitjacket, “Jaws of Death” and fire, all dangling 16 feet off the ground.
