Obituary: Holmes, Edward John

Age 74

HOLMES, Edward John (Age 74) Edward John Holmes was born in Lewiston, Idaho, April 28, 1939, and died September 16, 2013, in Colfax, Washington, at Age 74.

He was the son of John Holmes and Gladys Maley Holmes, deceased, and brother of Robert Holmes, also deceased.

His surviving sibling is his sister Patricia Holmes Voge.

Ed graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and farmed in the Rosalia area.

His passions included skiing and metal work.

He said his favorite job was his 20 years with the Sun Valley Ski Patrol, and he will be remembered with fondness by many people in the Valley.

He enjoyed designing and creating metal works, many of which can be seen around the community of Rosalia.

His drawing board was a napkin or the shop floor.

Over the years he made slat benches, arbors, special circular stairs without a center pole, storage shelves and drawers, plows, etc.

He built the first flatbed pickup in the area and always built his own bumpers for the trucks.

He also worked for a time putting in sidewalks in Rosalia and surrounding communities.

Ed enjoyed teaching young people how to weld.

He was a silent volunteer for many projects and a huge supporter of youth activities including Rosalia Junior Rodeo and Pine City Gun Club youth.

Suggested donations may be made to the Rosalia Junior Rodeo Association, Pine City Gun Club Youth, Rosalia Fire and EMTs, Sun Valley Youth Ski Program, or your own choice.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 24, 11:00 am, at I.O.O.F.

Evergreen Cemetery north of Rosalia.

A get together will follow at the Johnson Family Arena south of Rosalia.

Dress code is Ed Holmes casual.
