Candlelight vigil to honor of children with cancer

SOUTH HILL – American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest will hold a candlelight vigil in honor of all children who have or have had cancer on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Glover Mansion, 321 W. Eighth Ave.

The free event features words from childhood cancer survivors and their families, as well as families who have lost children to cancer.

Candidate meetings set for Lilac festival royalty

SPOKANE COUNTY – High school senior girls interested in becoming a candidate for the 2014 Spokane Lilac Festival Royal Court are invited to attend any one of four candidate orientation meetings with a parent or guardian.

In order to be eligible for the court, you must attend one of the following meetings:

• Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Spokane South Perry Library, 3324 S. Perry St.

• Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Spokane Valley County Library, 12004 E. Main Ave.

• Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the North Spokane County Library, 44 E. Hawthorne Road;

• Oct. 10 at 6: 30 p.m. in the Spokane Valley County Library.

Car test drives to aid CV’s girls cross country, track

SPOKANE VALLEY – Gus Johnson Ford, the Ford Motor Co. and Central Valley High School will present the second annual Drive 4UR School event Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school, 821 S. Sullivan Road.

For every person who test drives a car during this event, the CV girls cross country and track programs will receive $20 from Ford. The school can earn up to $6,000 and no one has to buy anything.

Drivers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Buddhist temple offers meditation workshop

SOUTH PERRY – A beginner’s Passage Meditation Introductory Workshop is scheduled at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., at 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 22 through Nov. 19.

Each session begins with instructions and a time for discussion, followed by 30 minutes of meditation.

There is no charge for the workshop, but donations to the temple will be accepted.

The workshop is based on the book “Passage Mediation” by Sri Easwaran which may be purchased at local bookstores or www.easwaran.org.
