Obituary: Mooney, Rosemary Patricia

Age 96

Mooney, Rosemary Patricia March 16, 1917 - September 20, 2013 Rosemary Patricia Mooney passed away peacefully on September 20th in Spokane.

She was born on March 16, 1917 in New York City to George and Anna (Hardiman) Lussier.

She graduated from St.Lawrence Academy and received a prestigious New York State Regents Scholarship to attend Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart.

After graduating she worked as a deputy sheriff in NY, a Macy’s store detective, and a hospital social worker.

During WW ll she married Valentine John Mooney, a friend from childhood.

Following the birth of her youngest child, Rosemary became an elementary school teacher and was well loved by her students.

After retirement she went to live with her daughter Valerie and family.

Adored by her grandchildren, she was a loving and generous grandmother.

Her grandchildren have many great “grandma stories”.

Rosemary enjoyed reading, playing bridge - sometimes twice a day, and travelling during her retirement years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Valentine and her son, Christopher Mooney.

She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Mullen (Jim), Victoria Mooney, and son, Kevin Mooney (Delaine); grandchildren: Jennifer Cassidy (Michael), David Mullen (Jamie), Brian Mullen (Jill), Steve Mullen, Richard Mullen (Annie), Seanna Sumrak (Matt), and Jessica Siler (Chris); and 12 great grandchildren.

Rosemary’s joie de vivre, sense of humor, and generosity will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosemary’s name to Trinity Catholic School.

Services will be held at St.Joseph’s Catholic Church in Colbert.

The Rosary will be on Friday, September 27th at 6:30 P.M. and the Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 A.M. To view Rosemary’s online memorial, please visit www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com.
