Gonzaga came back from two sets down to defeat Loyola Marymount 19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-20, 17-15 as the Bulldogs picked up their first West Coast Conference volleyball win of the season in Spokane on Thursday night.
The Lions (7-5, 2-1) led 13-12 in the final set but Savannah Blinn turned three kills to tie it at 15. Another Blinn kill and an attack error gave GU (5-7, 1-2) the win.
Blinn had 18 kills, Lyndsay Palmer 21 assists and Kathleen Wright 13 digs.
• Lindsay Niemeier turned in her third double-double of the season with 30 assists and 12 digs as Eastern Washington (5-9, 2-1 Big Sky) held off Montana State (2-12, 0-3) at Cheney 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-12.
Allie Schumacher added 18 kills on .325 hitting, including back-to-back kills to end the match.
EWU’s Allison Doerpinghaus had nine blocks, including three in the fifth set.
• Host Idaho (7-8) fell to Utah Valley (7-8) in a Western Athletic Conference opener 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11 at Moscow. Three Vandals had 13 kills.
Washington State (7-0-3) had a 10-shot advantage over Oregon (2-4-3) but the Cougars had to settle for a 0-0 draw in a Pac-12 opener at Eugene.
WSU barely missed two scoring chances early in the first overtime.
The Cougars extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 14 matches, the second-longest active run in the country.
• Whitney Peterson’s goal in the 58th minute lifted Idaho State (4-5) over Eastern Washington (2-8) 1-0 in a Big Sky Conference opener in Pocatello.
