Deals await on gear for kids

Our Weekly Pick For Families

Bargain-seeking parents, this one’s for you.

The Just Between Friends consignment sale runs today through Sunday at the Spokane County fairgrounds, offering used clothing, toys and gear for babies and children at prices touted at 50 to 90 percent off retail prices.

The event is a cross between an enormous garage sale and a secondhand store, with consigned items from 400 sellers organized in sections and on racks, said Tyona Albrecht, the Spokane resident and mother of four who owns the Spokane-area Just Between Friends franchise. She also runs an annual spring sale.

The fall sale offers seasonal items such as winter clothing, shoes, coats and boots, Halloween costumes and Christmas outfits, along with year-round gear such as baby swings and layettes, toys and books.

“Anything you could ever imagine a child could want or need, we will sell it,” Albrecht said.

Well, not quite anything. The sale won’t consign used car seats and cribs. And Albrecht said staffers knowledgeable about product recalls pull potentially dangerous items off the shelves, if they make it that far.

Still, there’s a lot of merchandise. Along with racks of clothing organized by size and separated into garments for girls and boys, past sales have offered rows of strollers, changing tables, rocking chairs and stationary jumpers for babies.

Sunday is half-price day – all items that get the OK from sellers go for 50 percent off.
