Sly goal sends Cheney to defeat

Kate Sly scored the only goal of the match to give host Clarkson a 1-0 Great Northern League soccer victory against Cheney on Thursday afternoon.

After a Cheney foul just outside the penalty box, Sly stepped up and curled the free kick over the wall and in for the Bantams.

The Clarkston defense, led by goalkeeper Michael Tenwick, held up from there to preserve the win.

Pullman 3, Colville 0: Anna Mari Petrino scored a goal in the 10th minute and Becca Wickard held on for the clean sheet in a GNL match in Pullman.

The Greyhounds led 2-0 at halftime after Maddi Cillay added a goal in the 34th minute.

Colville put five shots on goal in the first half but Wickard could not be beat.

Stephanie Winchell assisted on the opening goal and added one of her own in the second half for Pullman.

West Valley 7, Deer Park 0: The Eagles soared past the host Stags, scoring six first-half goals for a GNL victory.

Jenna Sullens scored the first and last goals of the match for West Valley.

Natalie Blair also scored a goal and had two assists for the Eagles, with Rylee McConnell also adding a goal and an assist.

Rachel McGlothlen and Vanessa Gerard combined in between the posts for the West Valley clean sheet.

Intermountain League

Coeur d’Alene Charter 4, Kellogg 1: The Panthers downed the visiting Wildcats.

Kellogg took the lead through Taylor Peterson’s penalty, but Sarah Haman scored for Charter to level the match midway through the first half.

In the second half, goals from Emily Osborne-Moss, Katie Baxter and Abby Bartlett helped the Panthers push their IML record to 7-0.
