Ethics

I agree with the editorial about the city of Spokane strengthening its ethics code. Our Spokane County commissioners should also have a strong ethics code and greater transparency.

It was clear to me that might have made a difference to Commissioner Todd Mielke when he was testifying in Washington, D.C., about the Spokane Tribe’s project in the city of Airway Heights. Ethics and transparency would have required him to acknowledge that he was once the lobbyist for the commercial card room casinos in Spokane County and that he has accepted campaign contributions from the Kalispel Tribal Gaming Authority, an entity opposing the project to protect its gambling market.

We the people expect better from our leaders.
