NAU rolls to victory over Griz

Northern Arizona’s defense returned two fumbles for scores, including Ryan Reardon’s 98-yarder, and the Lumberjacks smothered the Montana offense in a 34-16 win over the Grizzlies on Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Trailing 14-3 in the second quarter, the Grizzlies had fourth-and-goal at the 2 yard line when Jordan Johnson fumbled and Reardon’s long return gave NAU (3-1, 1-0 Big Sky) a 21-3 lead. The Grizzlies opened the third quarter with another fumble and Marcus Alford’s 22-yard return made it 28-3.

NAU’s Zach Bauman rushed for 118 yards and scored back-to-back TDs in the first quarter, including a 41-yarder, to give the Lumberjacks an early 14-0 lead.

Montana (3-1, 0-1) didn’t score a TD until the fourth quarter.

Montana State 63, North Dakota 20: Cody Kirk rushed for five touchdowns – all in the first half – to lead the Bobcats (3-2, 1-0) over North Dakota (1-3, 0-1) in Grand Forks, N.D.

UC Davis 30, Idaho State 13: Randy Wright threw for 201 yards, Gabe Manzanares rushed for a career-high 208 yards and Brady Stuart kicked three field goals to lead the Aggies (1-4, 1-0) past the Bengals (2-2, 0-1) in Davis, Calif.

Sacramento State 31, Weber State 3: DeAndre Carter caught three of Garrett Safron’s four TD passes as the Hornets (2-3, 1-0) coasted past the Wildcats (1-4, 0-1) in Ogden, Utah.

Southern Utah 27, Northern Colorado 21: Aaron Cantu threw for 269 yards and two TDs to lead the Thunderbirds (4-1, 1-0) over the Bears (1-4, 0-1) in Greeley, Colo.
