Obituary: Whiting, Velda Eugene “Gene”

Age 82

WHITING, Velda Eugene “Gene” August 1, 1931- September 15, 2013 Gene was born August 1, 1931 in Los Angeles California.

He passed away September 15, 2013.

He moved to Spokane during his grade school years.

He graduated from North Central High School in Spokane.

He attended Eastern and then served in the Navy for four years.

He returned to Eastern and and earned a Bachelors Degree in Science.

He taught at Park Junior High and West Valley High School.

He became head of both the math and computer departments at West Valley.

He was very active in the West Valley Education Association and was also on the WEA Board of Directors.

He enjoyed skeet shooting and hunting.

He trained dogs and competed in English Springer Spaniel Field Trials.

He was invited to shoot at many Springer Spaniel Field Trials.

He taught skiing at Switzer Basin and also at 49 Degrees North.

He loved traveling in his motor home to Arizona for the winter.

He sailed his boat on the coast of Washington and British Columbia.

Gene was a SASS Cowboy Action Shooter.

He is survived by his wife Mary, several cousins in California, a special cousin Robert Wilson; sister in law Barbara Schanz; nephews Chris Schanz and Matt Schanz, Matts wife Deniece and great nephew and niece Dylan and Emma Schanz.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Hutton Settlement.

At his request there will be no service.
