McDermott leads AP All-Americans

Men’s college basketball: Doug McDermott spent his senior season passing a lot of big names on the career scoring list. He is now among some very select company.

The senior forward from Creighton was a unanimous choice for the Associated Press All-America team on Monday. He is the first three-time selection in 29 years.

McDermott was one of four seniors on this year’s team, which included freshman Jabari Parker of Duke. The other seniors are Russ Smith of Louisville, Shabazz Napier of Connecticut and Sean Kilpatrick of Cincinnati. – Associated Press

MLB ticket prices up 2 percent

Baseball: Major League Baseball’s average ticket price rose 2 percent this season to $27.93, the steepest rise since a 5 percent hike in 2009, according to Team Marketing Report.

World Series champion Boston had the highest average, rising 4.8 percent to $52.32. The New York Yankees kept their average flat and remained second at $51.55. The Seattle Mariners were No. 9 with an average price of $28.45. (See comple list on Scoreboard/B4)

The average NFL ticket price was $81.54 last season, TMR said. The NBA average is $52.50 this season and the NHL average is $61.62. – AP

Seahawks, Sounders offer support

Members of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Sounders soccer team visited a community affected by the deadly Washington state mudslide.

Seahawks and Sounders players met with children and others at the Darrington Community Center on Monday evening. The Seahawks said in a statement they were going “to offer support and encouragement to this community as privately as possible.”

More than 20 people died and more than two dozen are missing in one of the deadliest landslides in U.S. history. – Associated Press
