The Florida State Seminoles have never won a national postseason tournament. The program has played in nine consecutive tournaments, including four straight NCAA appearances and five in the NIT, but each has ended in a loss. The Seminoles didn’t hang their heads when left out of the NCAA tournament, and now one of the No. 1 seeds in the NIT has advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 1997. A win against another No. 1, Minnesota, tonight (4 p.m., ESPN2) puts them in the championship game. Another top seed, SMU, plays a No. 3 seed, Clemson, in the second semifinal in the traditional doubleheader at Madison Square Garden in New York. – AP
