Man hospitalized after he ran from police

A man is reported to be in critical condition after a hit-and-run collision and a brief police pursuit. A Spokane Police officer witnessed the hit-and-run near the intersection of Division and Magnesium in north Spokane at about 10:30 a.m., according to a news release. The suspect fled in a vehicle and crashed the car, then ran away. After a short chase, the officer caught up with the suspect and “immediately noticed (he) appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency,” a news release said. There was no contact between the officer and the driver before he drove away, said police spokeswoman Monique Cotton. Medics were called to the scene and the man was taken to a local hospital where his condition deteriorated. Police called in the Spokane Investigative Regional Response (S.I.R.R.) Team because of the critical condition of the suspect, the news release said.
